Strike Authorization Does Not Mean Strike: Let’s Focus on Getting a Deal

This week, the union announced it has received strike authorization from its members. While we are disappointed in the outcome of the vote, Ralphs remains focused working with the union at the bargaining table to reach the right deal for our SoCal pharmacists.

What Strike Authorization Means
A strike authorization vote is a common step in contract negotiations. It gives union leaders the authority to call a strike if they choose without additional notice, but it does not mean a strike automatically will happen.

At this time, it is business as usual at Ralphs. Our pharmacies remain open, and we continue serving our pharmacy patients and communities every day.

Negotiations Continue
The company and union are scheduled to return to the bargaining table August 6-7. For the company, this vote does not change our focus. We see it as a normal part of the negotiation timeline, and it will not distract us from our core goal: working with the union at the bargaining table to reach the right deal for our pharmacists, our pharmacy patients, and the long-term success our pharmacies.

Focusing on What Matters Most
We believe negotiations work best when both sides stay engaged at the bargaining table. If you are a dues-paying union member and want to see negotiations continue moving forward, consider sharing your perspective with your union representative. Let your union leaders know you want them to:

  • Stay focused on bargaining
  • Continue working collaboratively at the bargaining table
  • Negotiate in good faith to reach a deal in August

Our Commitment to You
Ralphs is committed to reaching the right deal for pharmacists. We remain ready to:

  • Bargain in good faith
  • Listen to and carefully evaluate the union’s proposals
  • Share thoughtful and progress-focused counter proposals to find solutions when we disagree
  • Work toward the right agreement for our pharmacists, our pharmacy patients, and our pharmacies

We believe the best deal will be reached through productive conversations not unnecessary disruption.

We’ll continue sharing updates in stores and on RalphsCBA.com.
