Why is the Union Seeking Strike Authorization Now?

This week, the Union announced plans to hold a strike authorization vote. We believe this is an unfortunate and unnecessary step—especially while bargaining sessions are still scheduled and progress continues to be made. Here’s what you need to know:

1. We Have a Strong Offer on the Table
The Company has proposed a wage package that includes meaningful wage increases that reward your hard work and put more money in your pocket.

  • Top Rate Associates: $2.50/hour raise over three years

$1.00/hour in 2025; $0.75/hour in 2026; $0.75/hour in 2027
Representing a 3.7% increase for Top Rate Food Clerks and a 4.5% increase for Top Rate GM Clerks.

  • Progression Increases: Raises for associates still moving through the wage scale—including Courtesy Clerks.

2.  Bargaining Is Still Happening
We are scheduled to meet again on May 29 and 30. Calling for a strike authorization vote while bargaining dates are already set sends the wrong message. It does not reflect a serious effort to work toward a fair agreement before the contract extension expires on June 7.

3.  Let’s Stay Focused on a Fair Deal
If you’re a dues-paying member, and you want the Union to focus on working together to reach an agreement—not pushing toward a strike—we encourage you to speak with your Union representative.

Ask Union leaders to focus on collaboration and bargaining in your best interest. Together, we still have time to reach a fair agreement during our next sessions.

We remain ready to listen, to bargain in good faith, and to do what’s right for our associates, our customers, and our communities.

What’s Next

  • Bargaining resumes May 29-30.
  • If you have questions, talk to your store leader. If they don’t have the answer, they’ll follow up and get back to you.
  • We will continue to provide honest and transparent bargaining updates in store huddles and at RalphsCBA.com.
