Company and Union Continue to Exchange Proposals

Thank you for your continued focus on your job and our customers through the negotiation process. Our goal is to keep you updated as we meet with the union, exchange proposals and come to a fair and balanced offer. We met with the bargaining committee on June 3-4 and here is the latest.

Both parties continued to exchange proposals and seem to be far apart on wages. Wages are just one piece of your total compensation, which also includes health care benefits and a pension for your retirement. More discussion needs to take place on wages, and we have shared with the union our total compensation package either currently meets or exceeds that of your peers in this market.

In our discussions, we also reminded the union bargaining committees of the presentation during our first negotiations session, which provided information about how competition, pricing and market share, has affected our business in the past, now and in the future in the Southern California market.

As we have stated in the past, we are committed to providing good stable jobs and competitive pay and benefits for our associates. We also need to keep our stores competitive in this changing and competitive retail environment.

In addition to our discussion on wages, we also exchanged some proposals on work language but did not come to agreement on those.
